What is the difference between git revert and git reset?

❓ Interview Prompt: Compare safe public undoing with git revert versus history-rewriting local undoing with git reset.

git reset <hash> moves the branch HEAD pointer backwards, erasing intermediate commits from current branch history (never use on shared public branches!). git revert <hash> creates a brand new commit that undoes changes safely on public branches.

Code Implementation Example

bash
# Safe Undo for Public Shared Branches
git revert a1b2c3d

# Local Undo (rewrites local history)
git reset --hard HEAD~1
💡Comparing safe public undo with git revert vs local reset.
🎯 Interview Key Takeaway

Use git revert for shared public branches to create inverse commits safely; use git reset for un-pushed local commits.
