How do Implicit and Dependent Custom Validation Rules handle missing fields?

❓ Interview Prompt: Explain Implicit Validation Rules (ImplicitRule interface), validating missing or empty inputs, and dependent validation logic.

By default, custom validation rules do NOT run if the target attribute is missing or empty from the input payload.

Implicit Rules:

Implementing 'IlluminateContractsValidationImplicitRule' forces Laravel to execute the custom validation rule even when the target attribute is completely omitted from the request!

Code Implementation Example

php
<?php
namespace AppRules;

use IlluminateContractsValidationImplicitRule;

class RequirePhoneIfNoEmail implements ImplicitRule
{
    public function passes($attribute, $value): bool {
        if (empty(request('email')) && empty($value)) {
            return false;
        }
        return true;
    }

    public function message(): string {
        return 'A phone number is required when email is omitted.';
    }
}
💡Implicit validation rule running even when attribute is missing.
🎯 Interview Key Takeaway

Implement ImplicitRule to force custom validation execution on empty or missing input attributes.
