What is the difference between path.join() and path.resolve() in node:path?

❓ Interview Prompt: Compare `path.join()` (concatenates path segments with OS separator) vs `path.resolve()` (resolves absolute path relative to cwd).

The 'node:path' module normalizes cross-platform filesystem paths:

1. 'path.join(...paths)':

Concatenates path segments using the OS-specific separator ('/' on Linux/macOS, '' on Windows) and normalizes '.' and '..'.

2. 'path.resolve(...paths)':

Resolves a sequence of paths into an absolute path, processing from right to left using the Current Working Directory ('process.cwd()') if an absolute root is not found.

Code Implementation Example

javascript
import path from 'node:path';

// Joins relative segments: 'foo/bar/baz'
const joined = path.join('foo', 'bar', '../baz');

// Resolves absolute path: '/Users/name/app/foo/baz'
const resolved = path.resolve('foo', 'baz');
💡Comparing path.join and path.resolve path concatenation.
🎯 Interview Key Takeaway

Use path.join for cross-platform relative path joins, and path.resolve to obtain absolute file paths.
