How do BETWEEN and IN operators filter range and set conditions?

❓ Interview Prompt: Explain `BETWEEN ... AND` inclusive boundary filtering, `IN (...)` discrete value set filtering, and subquery list matching.

Filtering range and discrete set conditions:

•
'BETWEEN low AND high': Filters values within an inclusive range ('created_at BETWEEN '2026-01-01' AND '2026-01-31''). Equivalent to 'col >= low AND col <= high'.
•
'IN (val1, val2, ...)': Filters values matching any discrete item in a list or subquery set ('status IN ('ACTIVE', 'PENDING')'). Equivalent to multiple 'OR' conditions.

Code Implementation Example

sql
SELECT id, title, price, status
FROM products
WHERE status IN ('PUBLISHED', 'FEATURED')
  AND price BETWEEN 10.00 AND 100.00;
💡Filtering products with IN set lists and BETWEEN price ranges.
🎯 Interview Key Takeaway

Use IN for matching discrete value lists, and BETWEEN for inclusive numeric or date ranges.
